The Cowichan District Hospital provides a full range of
diagnostic and acute care services for the residents of the Cowichan
Region. The Order of the King's Daughters and Sons opened the six-bed
hospital in 1911. It maintained responsibility for the hospital until
1932, when the then 60 bed facility was turned over to the Cowichan
District Hospital Association. The Vancouver Island Health Authority
currently manages the hospital.
The present hospital building at 3045 Gibbins Road was
opened in 1967 and Cairnsmore Place, the extended care facility, was
opened on the site of the former King's Daughters and Sons Hospital on
July 1, 1973.
